Night View of Yu Yuan Mart, Shanghai

After my early dinner, I leave the Nanxiang Steamed Bread Store, hoping to buy some Chinese characteristics products in Yu Yuan Mart. WOW, it’s totally amazing!!! To my surprise, the whole mart seems to have been transfornmed into another place. All the traditional Chinese architecture are now decorated with beautiful lights which highlight the silhouette of all the roof features.
This is the night view of the Lake-center Pagoda. As a contrast, there is no lighting on the Nine-turn brdige except at its bottom. In this way, the form of the Pagoda can be shown without too much interference from the bridge.
At nighttime and attracted by these lights, I discover another building on the other side of the lake. The total reflection of the building is marvellous!!
Right next to the Lubolang Restaurant, there is a larger and taller building where I take the aerial photo of the Lake-center Pagoda during daytime. From this view, it looks like an emperor’s castle. If you look closely, you can see a famous Chinese dessert shop called the Ningbo Glutinous Rice Dumpling Store. There was a saying that this shop had been visited and favored by the famous artist, Charlie Chaplin, who ordered and ate three bowls of glutinous-rice dumplings simultaneously.
The glutinous rice dumpling is a traditional Shanghai snack invented almost 700 years ago. It is a specialty snack to be eaten by families on the 15th January of the Lunar New Year and it symbolizes united and happiness. Of course, I would not miss this chance to try it and so I order two bowls of glutinous rice dumplings:
- a sweet one with seasame fillings
- a salty-one with processed vegetables filings.
Both are delicious. Yummy!!
Moreover, do you also notice that I order another version of Steamed Dumpling? This is a big one with a lot of soup inside the dumpling so I have to drink the soup through a straw first before eating the dumpling. Another amazing snack of Shanghai!! Also yummy although not as good as the famous Nanxiang Steamed Dumplings I’ve tried earlier.

The night view is absolutely gorgeous and these pictures of the lights are awesome, Thanks kitty!
I also recall that once I was in Yu Yuan at night, there was about 15 minutes that they made a “water screen” with a fountain-like device near the Nine-turn bridge and use a projector to project some short movies onto the “water screen”, it was really amazing at that time.
